NPSF is committed to improving the safety of patients. We accomplish this through our efforts to:

• Identify and create a core body of knowledge;
• Identify pathways to apply the knowledge;
• Develop and enhance the culture of receptivity to patient safety;
• Raise public awareness and foster communications about patient safety; and
Improve the status of the Foundation and its ability to meet its goals.

In doing this we have developed the following programs:

Stand Up for Patient Safety

The NPSFs Stand Up for Patient Safety program offers tools to launch, sustain and advance patient safety initiatives. Membership benefits include a Member Resources Guide with an extensive collection of articles, brochures, and other resources; free annual participation in 10 audio-web conferences presented by experts in the field; complimentary subscriptions to Current Awareness and Focus; unlimited access to the members website; and free participation in the AIG regional leadership conference series. Begun in 2002 with 17 founding members, the Stand Up program now has a membership of over 400 healthcare facilities.

Annual Patient Safety Congress

The Annual NPSF Congress is the only event of its kind, bringing together patient safety stakeholders from across the healthcare system for two days of inspirational plenary talks, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities.

Corporate Council

Leading health care products and services companies take part in the National Patient Safety Foundations [link not active]!!!!! Corporate Council to enhance their understanding of the issue of patient safety, and the challenges faced by their customers. The Corporate Council provides a forum for these industry leaders to work alongside NPSF Board members, health care providers, hospital executives, and patients and their families to facilitate the adoption of solutions to improve patient safety.

Research Grants Program

The NPSF's Research Grants Program aims to stimulate new, innovative research directed toward improved patient safety in the United States. Since 1998, the NPSF Research Program has supported 26 research projects with over $2.5 million in grant funding.

Patient Safety Awareness Week

Patient Safety Awareness Week is a national education and awareness-building campaign for improving patient safety at the local level. Hospitals and healthcare organizations across the country are encouraged to plan events to promote patient safety within their own organizations.
